Dolly Rebecca Parton, born on January 19, 1946, is an American actor, singer and songwriter. She is also a philanthropist as well as a businesswoman. Her work in the field of country music is her most prominent accomplishment. Parton's success as a songwriter prompted her to make her debut album in 1967 with Hello, I'm Dolly. This was followed by successes throughout the 1960s, both as a solo artist and also in the series she recorded with Porter Wagoner, before she achieved her highest sales in the 1970s, and continued to do so until the 1980s. Although Parton's 1990s albums didn't sell well, she was able to succeed commercially in the new millennium. She has since released albums through various independent labels, including Dolly Records. Parton has sold over 100 million records around the world. Her music includes Recording Industry Association of America's (RIAA-certified platinum, gold, and multi-platinum award-winning tracks. 25 of her songs have made it to the top. She reached number. 1 on Billboard's country music charts this year, which is the highest number for a female singer (tied to Reba McEntire). Her 44 Top 10 Country Albums are the best of any artist.
