Dolly Rebecca Parton (born January 19, 1946) is an American actor, singer, philanthropist, and businesswoman most well-known for her work in the field of country music. Parton's success as a songwriter led her to release her debut album in 1967 with Hello, I'm Dolly. This was followed by success throughout the 1960s, both as a solo artist and also in a series with Porter Wagoner, before she hit her peak in sales during the 1970s and continued through the 1980s. Although Parton's 1990s albums were not well-received however, she did achieve commercial success in the 2000s. She has since released albums on several independent labels, including Dolly Records. The label has sold more than 100 million albums worldwide.Parton's music includes Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA)-certified platinum, gold and multi-platinum awards. She has had 25 songs reach no. 1 on the Billboard country music charts, a record for a female singer (tied with Reba McEntire). Her 44 Top 10 Country Albums are the best of any artist.
