Dolly Rebecca Parton (born January 19, 1946) is an American actor, singer businesswoman, philanthropist, and actress, known primarily for her work in country music. Parton's success as a songwriter led her to release her debut album in 1967 with Hello, I'm Dolly. This was followed by success throughout the 1960s, both as a solo artist and also in the series she recorded with Porter Wagoner, before she reached her peak sales during the 1970s, and continued to do so until the 1980s. Parton's albums from the 1990s didn't sell similarly, however she rediscovered commercial success during the new millennium. She has released albums on a variety of independent labels from 2000 onward as well as her own label Dolly Records. The label has sold more than 100 million albums worldwide.Parton's music is Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA)-certified platinum, gold and multi-platinum awards. 25 of her tracks have made it to the top. She reached the no. 1 on Billboard's country music charts this year, which is the highest number for a female singer (tied with Reba McEntire). Her 44 Top 10 Country Albums are an all-time record for any artist.
