Jordan Ross Belfort (/'belf@rt/; born July 9, 1962) is an American entrepreneur, speaker, author, former stockbroker, and financial criminal. He pleaded guilty in 1999 to charges of fraud, including manipulating the stock market and running a boiler-room as part a penny-stock scheme. Belfort spent 22 months in prison in accordance with an agreement that required him to testify against his co-workers and other subordinates involved in the fraud scheme. In 2007, he released The Wolf of Wall Street, which was later adapted to the Martin Scorsese movie of the similar title that was released in the year 2013. Leonardo DiCaprio played him in the film. Belfort received his degree from American University in Biology. Belfort planned to utilize the money he earned from Loewenstern to attend dental education. He was accepted into at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry. The Dean told him on his very first day of university: "The golden era of dentistry has passed."
