Leonardo

Recently an old sketch of Leonardo da Vinci from 530 years ago was found in France. It was found in Paris' Tajan auction house and is valued at 15 million euros, or nearly $16 million USD. The drawing in ink and pen is a mere 7.5 x 5 inches and is believed to be one of the eight studies of the "Martyred Saint Sebastian" listed in da Vinci's Codex Altlanticus notebooks. The historians believe that da Vinci eventually completed a complete painting, however it's still to be discovered. The sketch came to light when an elderly French doctor discovered it in his late father's papers. It was placed in the 16th Century by Tajan's director of old master pictures. Another expert observed notes written in left-handed style and concluded that da Vinci was the prime candidate. Carmen C. Bambach was curator of Spanish and Italian drawings at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Carmen C. Bambach, curator of Italian and Spanish drawings in the Metropolitan Museum of Arts has offered her third opinion. She was of the opinion that da Vinci's attribution was undisputed. French law allows the Louvre Museum to submit the possibility of a new proposal.
