LaMelo LaFrance Ball (born on the 22nd of August 2001) is an American professional basketball player who plays for the Charlotte Hornets of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He was chosen by the Hornets with the third overall pick in the 2020 NBA draft. Ball was named as the NBA Rookie of the Year in 2021. He was named an NBA All-Star the following season in 2022.Ball began high school at Chino Hills High School in Chino Hills, California, where he won a state championship and achieved national fame in his freshman year with his two older brothers Lonzo and LiAngelo. After his junior season an argument with his coach prompted him to join Prienai, the Lithuanian professional team Prienai. In the year 2018, he played in the Junior Basketball Association (JBA) which was a league founded by his father. He then going back to school in the year he was a senior at SPIRE Academy in Geneva, Ohio. Ball was a five-star college recruit and committed to UCLA but decided to forgo college basketball amid concerns about eligibility and join Australia with the Illawarra Hawks of the National Basketball League (NBL) in 2019. The player made a huge rise there. Previously, scouts had ridiculed Ball as an undrafted second rounder and the possibility of not playing in the NBA.
