 There are two core strategies for an effective software company. Strategy #1 is the niche player; dedicated to developing only a small portion of technology functions, services or products. Strategy 2 is a platform player. The business is typically bigger and is focused on creating a comprehensive technology proposition which can serve as the data fabric for customers. Although this is broad generalization, it demonstrates how software providers either want to stay as comparatively specific specialists, or attempt to grow their estate organically and via acquisitions. It's rare to find large-scale software providers who focus on expanding their product offerings while prioritizing certain products to get better at what they excel at. However, this situation goes a long way to explain what's happening at Infor the company that is known for its cloud-based solutions tailored to specific industries proficiency that is geared towards Enterprise Resource Management (ERP) and Supply Chain Management (SCM) tools.
