In July 2017, he became the most powerful person on earth beating Bill Gates for the first time. He was the most wealthy person on earth for a period of time, uninterrupted from October 2017 until January 2021.According to Amazon's most recent SEC report, Jeff owns 55 million shares of Amazon which is roughly 12% of the total shares in circulation. He held more than 80 million Amazon shares when he was at its highest. Jeff donated 19.7 million shares to his wife as part divorce settlement in April with MacKenzie Bezos. The value of the shares at the time of transfer was $36 billion. The settlement temporarily decreased Jeff's net worth from $150 billion to $114 billion. Jeff was also a pre-IPO investor in Google.com and owns around $1 billion shares in the company now known as Alphabet Inc.This was prior to his divorce and he had the equivalent of 80 million shares. Jeff's net worth reached the record high of $170 billion in that time.
