Honore-Victorin Daumier, French painter, printmaker and sculptor (French pronunciation"onoRe domeje"; 26 February 1808 - February 10, 1879), was a French artist and sculptor, whose work provides a commentary on the social and political life of France beginning in the Revolution of 1830 and ending with the end of the Napoleonic Empire in 1870. Daumier wrote satires on the conduct of his fellow citizens for periodicals and newspapers throughout his entire career, and earned money from caricatures and cartoons of characters from the political spectrum. He was a republican democrat who criticized the bourgeoisie, politicians, as well as the church as well as lawyers, the judiciary, and the judiciary. Following the publication of Gargantua in 1832, which was an unprofessional and insulting depiction of King Louis-Philippe Daumier was sentenced to a few months of imprisonment. Daumier was also a skilled artist. He was frequently present at the Parisian Salons, but was generally was ignored by critics as well as the French public.
