Mariah Carey (/m@'raI@/ born on March 27, 1969) is a famous American singer as well as songwriter, actress and record producer. She is referred to as the "Songbird Supreme" and "Queen of Christmas", she is noted for her vocal range of five octaves, melismatic singing style, distinctive use of the whistle register and songs written by her. Carey gained notoriety in 1990 when she released her debut album titled "Emotions. Carey was the first artist to have her first five songs go to number one on the Billboard Hot 100. These included "Vision of Love" and "Emotions". Carey was engaged to Tommy Mottola three years later. Carey was able to achieve more success with her albums Music Box (1993), Merry Christmas (1994), and Daydream (1995) featuring songs like "Hero", "Without You", "All I Want for Christmas is You", "Fantasy", "Always Be My Baby", and "One Sweet Day" that topped the US Billboard Hot 100 decade-end chart (1990s). Carey changed his image after separating from Mottola and added hip-hop elements to Butterfly (1997).
